Back for good

Whatever I said, whatever I did I didn't mean it
I just want you back for good
Whenever I'm wrong just tell me the song and I'll sing it
You'll be right and understood

eh? herm.. Not the meaning i was looking for. I thot this lyric would somehow serve this entry's objective, but instead.. it's more of a heartbreak song.. sheesh.

Maybe it's simpler to say.

I'M BACK FOR GOOD!

yeh yeh... it's been 2 months now since i walked on the grounds of Malaysia again. It feels kinda weird. Coz somehow.. it didn't feel like i left. Of course, things ARE different. There are changes physically here and there (e.g. : junction to enter my house is blocked!), people got married, their children grew, some friends disappeared, some lost their family, some bought new cars, new homes, got new jobs, etc etc. But somehow, everything seems so familiar.

Oh well.

As for me. I am now back in me old company again, but in a different department. Am now managing a call centre (not for Streamyx or Telephony.. mind you!) which caters for Data customers. It's definitely a different type of challenge. For instance, i now have to cover the whole Malaysia, as compared to on PJ area previously. I have nearly 60-70 staffs, with 7 executives indirectly reporting to me. More interaction with customers. More requirement for in-depth technical understanding (With the introduction of Metro-E). And the uncertain environment due to the de-merger of the whole company.

But needless to say, i am enjoying this job!.

Oh, other than work, i was involved in a physical theater by University Malaya : Tunku Kudin. The production was to qualify for the Malaysian Theatre Festival 2008. This production won first place in the KL theater festival and some of the existing dancers could not commit to this current production. That's where i came in.

Again, things were familiar, because the dance moves were similar to the one i did 2-3 years ago (same script & director). But with more complexity. A friend told me he liked the broadway-ish slide on the floor. Hehe.. i was surprised that i could do it too. Oh well.. may be i've found my gift. Haha!

Wokeh. i really hope i can update this blog more often. But no promises..

Busy busy busyyy!

Wahai Anak Dunia

Ruhil Rawkss!

Shoot 'em up

Memang.. memang kerjanya tembak menembak dari mula sampai habes. Heheh. one of the strongest point that this is an action movie with an actual plot (although the one tough guy beats the shit out of eveyone else theme is still apparent). However, it overdosed the audience with bullshit action. Too much i say.. too much! when a guy jumps out of an airplane and have a gun fight in the middle of the air.. you can just say.. "kot ye pon nak tipu.. jangan la melampau!"

hehe.. what the heck.. i am no pro critique. I'm sure Cipok will have something to say, if he choose to, of course.

Pinch Me

1992 - Before UPSR

"Umi, Sa nanti bila dah besar nak pergi belajar oversea, macam abg yang anak member umi tu"

"Heheh, ye ke? ke angan-angan je?"

"Tak pe umi, kita angan-angan dulu, nanti baru boleh jadi betul"

Yeap.. It has been 15 years since i made that pledge, and alhamdulillah, a mere dream of a boy has become a reality.

I still can't believe that my 1-year study in Manchester has come to an end. It has been a very good year, not just academically, but the process of learning as-a-whole. As you can see from my posts for the past year, it has not been just about studying (in fact, most of it weren't..:P). I learnt a lot from the interesting people that i've met, the places that i've gone, and books that i've read.

It has been a worth while experience. Believe me, i have not regretted even a bit, for having decided to come here to Manchester and leave lots of imprtant stuff behind for a while this whole year.

Thank you Umi and Papa for your support.

And Thank you friends, new or old, for the motivation that you showered for the past year.

I still can't believe that i'm here, at this point of juncture in my life.

Pinch me.. so that i know this is real.

That Tapai can now return to his home country, to continue his journey of a thousand steps...

Latest Updates

Salam Ramadhan to all. Hopefully this year's Ramadhan is better than last year's and Insya allah this blessed month shall train us into becoming a better person.

For the past few days, i have been Mosque hopping, trying out food. Heheh. The reason is that Lamb Briyani will only be made available during the second half of Ramadhan due to financial shortage. So at the moment, the McDougle mosque serves dates and milk. Currently Victoria mosque is rated highly by students due to the delicious curry chicken, pakora chicken, with milk syrup drink. Yummy.

The more important thing is not just the food, actually. Although the food is one of the major attractions for students, the ambience of the mosque also plays a major role to get people to come and do ibadah during the month of Ramadhan. (cover balik.. it not just about food bay-behhh!.. haha)

On a more less religious note, i am now making preparations to return to Malaysia. Lost of stuff to do in before returning to Malaysia, like shipping some stuff back and also hand-over of the house finances. But at least, i've bought the ticket. If everything goes well, i will arrive in Malaysia on the 24 of October. That's more or less 1 month to go. Can't wait!.

But before returning, surely, this month won't be put to waste. I am currently updating the contents for the MSD midlands website. (Will provide the link later when the website is fully completed for soft launch). Don't know if i can later use my dissertation application framework as an engine for the full-hard-launch version of this website. That'll be a good portfolio for my resume : a real-life system used by the Government to communicate with students and manage student activities. But we'll see how it goes.

Traveling-wise, a few friends and I are contemplating to go for a road trip to Germany for a week, but no confirmation yet. Looking forward to that, really. One last kopek road trip before returning to Malaysia. Nice..

So, most prolly I'll see you peeps in the Menara Telekom food court this November.

Adios!

p/s: Haih.. this sucks.. seems like it's the end of one journey..again..

Thesis Update

As of 6 September 2007, the author's thesis write up is completed. However, it is not till tomorrow, upon handing in the dissertation artefacts, a statement can be given that the work needed to be done to earn the MSc in Business Information Technology has ended.

The project was to develop a web-based teaching application for XML learning. This application should be equiped with logon, content navigation, online assessment and also progress tracking. It is decided that the iterative lifecycle approach is taken to develop this application. It is also required that documentation is provided for all stages of the development. This includes the preparatory work, requirement gathering, analysis, design, implementation, and testing. Recommendation is given by the supervisor that the document artefacts should be in the form of Unified Modeling Language (UML) diagrams.

Figure 1 - Project documentation statistics

The figure above represents the scale of work that was endured during the past 5 days. This is not in the consideration of the preceding web-application development stages, which has taken approximately 3 months to complete (due to the author's inexperience in programming).

It can be concluded that issues faced during the application development were f*ckin tremendous, however, it is fortunate that the author is a f*ckin freakin genius. Without the author's f*ckin talent, it would not have been possible for a dissertation project of this proportion to be succesfully completed. Thus, f*ck this and have a nice day.

Again, it should be reiterated. F*ck this, and have a nice day.

A trip down memory lane

Koffee Pot

Lead singer of the Band?

Adakah Bumiputera Rockers?

Cover Album?

Heheh, ini la jadiknye bila jumpa grafiti lawa kat dinding bangunan. Terus convert to cam-whore mode. :P. Had a very nice night in Copacabana again, but this time with few more friends. Didn't really enjoy much, since i know very little about salsa, which resulted in me sitting down most of the time.

Anyways, these past few days have been dedicated to graduates who are going back to Malaysia soon. Went to my housemate's convocation ceremony. The ceremony here is very brief. No Funfairs, no Convo-carnival and no artists. But there was no doubt on the efficiency of the ceremony. Things that had to be done was properly coordinated such as queue-ing of guests, tickets and non-ticket guests, entrance of guests, drinks for guests in line, etc etc. They divided graduates into 100 or so groups and the ceremonies were carried out for not more than 45 minutes. Here are some pics :

Am still not sure if i will be able to attend mine. Sigh~~.

Hatfield

Have been hanging around in Hatfield for the past few days. It is North of London, in between Luton and Central London. A very nice place to stay and it is just 30 minutes train ride from the King's Cross station.

Uh-oh. Nini's here! kewlios.. but can't really bring her around becuase of the amount if work i have to put in my dissertation project before my parents arrive. Fortunately i have friends that can bring her around. Oh well.. she's big enuff to think and get herself busy.

Went to carboot in St. Helens with Peja. Oh did i mention? Peja's parents are here so we've been travelling around. This carboot is 30 minutes away from here.St. Helen's Carboot was marvellous! it is a 4-level carpark that is turned into a market with lotsa cheap stuff! There was this one booth selling figurines of Star Wars, which i think some of them are collectibles, still in their boxes. They were selling them at 4 pounds! I bought a walkie talkie for 6 pounds. Really cheap. Bought meself cigarette cards collection. Cigarette cards are the collectible cards that are given when they bought cigarettes (duhh!). This one series of cards (they made 50 piece of card per series, with each series having different themes) were of national emblems. When i saw Malaysia in the 9th place (card 9 of 50) i couldn't resist buying it. Bought a few other interesting stuff as well, but non worth mentioning i guess.

Oh oh. afie is coming to Manchester tomorrow with her siblings. It;s nice to see an old friend again. But not too sure where to bring her yet. I know Manchester has lots to offer, but once u get used to this place, you tend to take for granted what other people would deem as interesting.

Oh well.. back tomy project now.

Chaa!!

Romeo oh Romeo..

Thou Villain Capulet!

When I reflect back to my experiences in performing arts, nothing beats the Royal Show Universiti Malaya back in 2002 (or 2001?) which presented Shakespear's Romeo & Juliet in front of Tengku Nazrin.

Being a newby in the arena, it was the first time i worked with a production of which the budget has 5 digits in it, in contrast to the low-budget student production. It was also i met with lots of interesting people of which have had lots of impact on how i perceive performing arts. (you guys know who you are)

Owh, if you are wondering where i am, i am the one at the back, to the left. Kurus kan? dont be fooled, that is just the effect of the camera. Funny thing is that cameras are supposed to add 10 kg on you, but this one didn't. I wonder where i can get the same make and model. :P

I was surprised to see this pic in Skin's friendster. Skin, if you are reading this, do you know where we can get more of our pics from during the production? (especially the one that we posed with Siti Nurhaliza.. hehe).

Anyways, it is nice to look back once in a while (although not too frequent) and see what you have gone through. Only then you would start to learn to appreciate your own experiences.

Cheerios.

Happenings

Somebody told me that my blog is getting more and more impersonal, with all these random videos and other stuff. (Though i really beg to differ). However, after thinking about it, maybe that comment has some truth in it. Have not been updating on things that i have been up to. So here goes:

Dissertation.. Dissertation.. Dissertation!
Well, a few things are happening at the moment. I am currently doing my dissertation project, which requires me to learn visual C#.NET, ASP.NET, ADO.NET, SQL Server 2005, Internet Information Services 6.0 and few other neat stuff. Things were moving slow at first, but i found a website which contains video tutorials on how to use Visual Studio.NET. After viewing most of the videos, i am now more confident about the project. The thing with Microsoft tools is that it is so powerful that if you try to learn everything before you start your project, you will never get to starting. Trick is to find the features that is related to your project and build on that.

Family Reunion!
My sister Nini is arriving next week. Might spend a weekend in London before coming back up to Manchester. Going to have so much fun, while waiting for Elin, Umi & Papa to arrive on the 19th of July. Can't wait! Truth be told, i am a wee bit homesick and since the weather is so grim here in Manchester, it is easy to get depressed. That is why i have been working out (Thanks to Din). At least i need someting to distract me from this autumn-like weather.

*Note: Dini, by the time you arrive, both of us will have at least 6 packs. Hahah. And owh.. then u and Din can show me Salsa dance moves. Elin told me you guys dance like you own the floor!

Cultural Show
Am also contemplating to perform a demo of Silat Cekak in a cultural show in Nottingham. There is this Malaysian-owned performing arts company in Nottingham (Notts) called Nusantara and they have shows regularly in front of local audience. This should be fun. I will be auditioning tentatively next week. Spoke to Abg Amin (Penyelia MMU) about this and he is supportive of this idea. Might even take a video of the rehearsals and performance and then ask some MMU students to edit. Video editing has not been one of my strengths. MOst prolly be only 3 of us performing, but am hoping to find more Silat Cekak members here in he UK. Hey, the more, the merrier, right?

Bicara Tokoh2 : Agriculture
Oh, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yasin is giving a talk tomorrow in Birmingham about agriculture oppoturnities in the RMK-9. Am going with 12 other friends to check out what he has to say. One of my friends actually want to open up a business in poultry. This should be beneficial. Hey, maybe i'd open up one ranch myself. Hehe.

KUSMA AGM : Step down
I've kept this quite hush hush (esp. from friends back in Malaysia), but i have been involved in Kelab UMNO Salford & Manchester (KUSMA) for quite some time now as Acting Vice President and Education Exco. Just can't keep myself cooped up in a room and do only studying. My hands and my whole body would start to itch! Haha. Anyways, the I've already stepped down during the AGM to make way for Effi (VP) and Ezlin(Education Exco).

Met lots of interesting people during my service in KUSMA. Am very proud to have worked with you guys. Anyways, good luck to the new committee lineup! (Yes, you can call me Tun Tuan Faisal now.. hehe)

Ok ok.. better end now before i overflow u guys with too much information. Will definitely update more..... Ta!

Hellppp!!

Alton Towers : Helppp.. can... nott.. brr.. eee..aa..tthh..ee

Hey ho.. figured that since nothing much is happening around me, i reckon that i should just put interesting pics that i found lying around in my folders.

Anyways, it is 450 am in the morning and it is already broad daylight. Just to give u an idea of how the day is in Manchester.. here are the prayer times:

Subuh : 2.32 a.m. <--starts to get brighter

Sunrise : 4.41 a.m. <--total daylight

Zuhur : 1.12 p.m.

Asar : 5.38 p.m.

Maghrib : 9.42 p.m. <-- starts to get dark

Isya : 11.39 p.m. <-- total night time

Heh. i was taking to syed and we were wondering how is the prayer time up North or South where there is 6 months of daylight and 6 months of night. How would the prayer time be? Once a year? Huhu..

Panglima

Wish

Ada org tanya, apa wish untuk tahun ni? well, All i wish is [keberkatan ilmu, kesihatan, rezeki dan semoga selamat seluruh keturunan dunia dan akhirat]. Amin.

I say yeah!

Owh, I received my Masters result (sans DIssertation Project - due September) yesterday. From the looks of things, alhamdulillah, i am able to get an M. Sc with Merit. If i work harder and lucky enough, might even be able to push the marks to a Distinction. Anyways.. wish me luck k guys?

Things are a bit quiet here in Manchester. Since Manchester is a student-infested city, the scene is more quiet now, a result of students going back to their respective countries. Most of the people who are left here are postgraduate students, final year (just graduated-waiting for convo) or working people. Some 2nd & third year students also stayed back, but not for long, i guess.

Ah.. so now i can concentrate on my project. No more "Alaa.. ni last dah kita lepak Faisal.. lepas ni dah tak jumpe lagi dah" shit that i can never get out off. (Although i know for a fact that i will be seeing them again after summer holidays). However this concentration towards my dissertation project is challenged by the existence of SKY TV and also tv-links.co.uk. Damn this fast internet. Hope i dont get stuck in any more TV series. HUhuu..

Well.. no excuses.. Faisal.. Nak buat cara nak.. Tak nak buat cara tanak... Jangan sampai ckp kalau. :)

Cheerios!

p.s: Can anybody try translating the sentence in bracket [ ] above to english?

It's a tie!

Your major should be part Engineering. Logic is your friend. With enough work, you can find a solution to anything... Unless it involves dating or parties.
Your major should be part Art. You are sensitive, creative, and you don't follow established rules. Unfortunately, you'll have to follow some rules if you ever want that promotion at Starbucks.

Cinema

The lights switched off.

When the lights goes off and the movie starts, you suddenly forget that you are on another continent, and surprisingly feel at home. You get sucked into this black hole and immense yourself with the movie plots and emotional offerings.

The lights switched on.

Movie has ended. Plot lines all neatly concluded. You suddenly gain consciousness of where you are. You look around and you feel lost. Disorientated if you may. Then it strikes you. You are thousands of miles away from home.

Interesting place.. this cinema.

Interesting statistic

Interesting thing happened this morning.. having too much time in my hands, I decided to ym! five friends, just to catch up on how they are doing. Out of five, 1 is married and has a baby, 1 is getting engaged in August, 1 is getting married Jan '08, 1 is thinking about getting married next year, and 1 just started a relationship. In addition, i got to know that another friend is getting married next week, on the 29th.

Wow.. what a wide relationship spectrum of friends that i have. And all sampled within 1 hour!

Freedom!

Yes.. I have oficially completed the taught course part of my masters Program... wuhuu!! Just completed the last exam paper for this final semester. Now.. all is left is the research/dissertation portion of the course. Huuu yeah! Now i have to put on my programming cap and start doing some programming! nyehehe..

I thought only working in TM can give this effect of no-time sense, and doing a masters programme can help slow things down.

I was wrong. Can't help thinking that this year has passed so quickly.

By no time, within 3-4 months, Insya Allah, I'll have my masters Degree and then i can proceed with the next step.. which is yet to be decided. Hope for the best yeah!

And those who are still having exams.. All the best!. Semoga berkat ilmu, kesihatan, rezeki dan jodoh.

Oh did i mention?

Freeeeeeeeeeddddddooooooooooommmmmmmmm!!

Tangan Kanan Menjerit lagi

Yes.. Tangan kanan menjerit lagi.... 3 hours of writing for both exams. Wuh.. i tell you, if my right hand can walk, he'd go to the nearest clinic and buy himself an MC for 2 weeks!

R.H : Right hand
L.H : Left hand

During the exams

LH : ahhahahah.. hahhaha... padan muka.. painful innit?

RH : Why are you laughing? I can't wait till exams is over! this guy is killing me.. i wish i have a pair of legs so that i can run away!

LH : You wish! but that you know, that is what you get, when you do an honest job! you have to work your ass off!! Ahaha.. get it? Ass off??.. Ass off???

RH : What the.. i dont get you..

LH : Haihh~~!!.. Hands dont have an ass.. nvmd.. nvmd.. forget what i just said

RH: ... (dry sense of humour.. this neighbour of mine) groan.. arghh.. it is getting more painful, i think my skin is peeling off. why didn't he buy one of those rubber coated pens??

Faisal : (Ouch, my right hand hurts..time for a break) Invigilator.. i need to go to the toilet now

In the toilet..

LH : What the.. noo!!! noo!!!!! aarghh.. not this againnnn!!!

'Flushhhhh'

RH : Now i know what he meant by dirty job.. hehe..(slow giggle) haha....(slightly louder) ahhahaha (louder).. ahahahahahahahha (evil laugh.. turning psycho)

Back in the exam room

Faisal : (why is my right hand trembling?). ouch!

----------------------------
Erkk.. wait a minute that was not the originial idea i had.. haih..

anyway.. the first paper was alright.. better than expected, really. The second paper was a killer. While answering the second paper, i then understood what Prof L meant when he said,"If you study.. you can only answer 20% of the examinations". At first, during class, i thought he was joking, but after looking at the past exam papers.. and actually answering the exams.. how right was he! the other 80% requires you to think on the spot.. making associations and sometimes you don;t even know which part of the syllabus is the question asking about!.

But it's good for me i guess.. being a 'kaki goreng' myself, and having lots of 'goreng' training during MMU years..(sedapkan hati.. hehe) i have learnt that a fresh body and mind is far desirable than to try and cover everything and go through it 7 times before exams and lose sleep. Yes.. there are actually really hardworking students who went thourgh the syllabus 7 times!! psycho! (but a bit jealous)

Now.. one paper left.. 600 pages to go.. how the speed reading had paid off.. :) study smartt!!

Random posting

Yoh yoh.. have not been studying productively. 30 min of studying at one given time, followed with 20 minutes of friends or naps before the next 30 minutes of studying. Now i know why people used to tell me,"Do your masters as soon as possible, when you are older, your pickup gets slower".

Hell, i think it is not just that.. maybe it is the fact that masters subjects are more applied. So when reading one paragraph, the amount of associations and concepts that you need to execute is much more compared to the straightforward concepts during degree. Well, degree in Malaysia, at least.

Owh.. was lepaking at Auntie Azima's house the other day, and uncle Fawzi (her husband) gave a few advice. There were things like:

"Itu la, susah kalau dah senang ni"

and

"The main rule i give to my team is that you gotta have balls, and as long as you don't end up in jail, you'd be fine"

High-risk tolerance man he is, i would say. But he got what he wanted, and he has achieved a lot with that belief system that he has. From Malaysia to Germany, From Diploma to MBA, and many many more. I think he manifests the saying,"if you are afraid of losing, you'll gain nothing".

I think i've found myself a new idol.. :P

Btw, Shahrul.. there is nothing to think about.. go and do your masters!!!!!

M-nite Over.. it's Exams time now!!

Hey ho.. i just noticed that i haven't really blogged for nearly a month now. Well.. I've been busy with all the preparation and all.. and bla bla bla.. I'm sure you won;t be interested with my excuses.

Anyhooo.. Malaysian NIte. went marvellously. Everything sort of fell into place and every piece of the jigsaw puzzle was in their respective place during the show. I can still remember sitting behind of Ikmal, the Stage manager.. with my body shaking and the sudden coldness that i felt in my hands. It's like a father waiting for the birth of his child, or maybe 20% of that feeling (I wouldn't know.. would I?)

It was my first time directing. So who wouldn't be nervous?

Here are a few clips available on youtube. These were taken by some of the audience. Amateur shots.. Can't wait to get the original DVD.

Vinod's opening Dance

Zapin (part 1)
Zapin (part2)
Candyman Dance
Thriller Dance (find me!)
Indian Dance (find me!)

There are a few more dance and defining moments in the play that is not available on youtube. Haih.. Mana DVD ni!!!!!! cepattt!!!

Owh.. am already thinking about the next play, which is planned to be in October, before i come back to Malaysia. It's going to be a serious one, and the script will be written by my friend Andrew from Poland.

This should be interesting.

uh-oh. now back to books!!! examm examm!!!!

Tat nenas

Haih... teringat zaman muda muda dulu (although i look the same.. hehe)

Yo Aroma peeps.. miss you guys! sighh!

Anyways.. here are the pics, thanx to saifulnang photopages. :)

Cheerios!

Me pics in Prague! + Mnite!

Me pics in Prague.. check it out!!

Link to M-nite page! Get details here!

I just submitted one MAJOR assignment, which literally will decide whether i am worthy of a MSc degree, or just cut for a higher diploma. Alhamdulillah, everything went well. Submitted 2 hours before the actual time, which actually is quite a record for me. Kira awal la tu! hehe. normally it would be 10 minutes bfore deadline. :P

Other updates would be M-Nite. Yes yes.. its just around the corner! This Saturday! I definitely think that it is going to be great. I am not saying this because i am the director or anything (if it were up to my directing skills, it may suck!), it is because of the quality of people i have been working with. MSSM's support, the ever-organised producer, the choreographers, Very.. very talented actors/actresses, and also the efficient technical from the crew. Long list of very good people i have worked with. Believe me.. Loongg.. longggg list. Anyways, It has been a very enjoyable experience.

Personally, i can't wait to see the show on stage. It's just that the design of the play is minimalism on props, but heavy on the technical. We can't really get to see the actual "look" off the play. I like this design because it is more practical, since i am not familiar with the stage and all. Don't wanna take unnecessary risks. And it will be less work for the props people.

Hope i've thought of everything though.

However, i can't help but thinking how i am going to miss this afterwards. I drag thinking that this is gong to be over. Wish i can stop time. :). But not everybody can be like Hiro Nakamura. :)

And owh.. other than M-nite.. there is this other thing called exams. Don't have much to say about that. So..

Too dee loooo!!!!

Exam time tables are out!

Hey ho! Exam time tables are out! Mine is 17,18, and 23rd May.

Not too worried though. I am too distracted by the fact that this may be my last academic exam in my whole entire life. Haha.. classic Tapai, always seeing things in a dramatic way.

ANyways, have to get back to work now. I have 1 preparatory report that is very important due in 1 weeks time! and i have only started page 3 out of 20!. Heheh.. Yes.. yes Subbu... i need this adrenaline rush, so that's why i prefer to start late. To illustrate the cruciality (ada ke perkataan ni?) of this preparatory work, if i dont come up with a satisfactory background reading and presentation, i will NOT get a masters, but a higher diploma instead. Scary huh..

OK now back to workk!!!!!!! Sorry guys, u will have to wait till after exams for the Eurotrip pics. I am now too occupied dealing with both Academic and also curricular stuff. Itu la.. Elin has warned me not to be too active. Hehe.. But sorry lah Elin, my hands are itchy and they cannot be left alone. (why does this sound dirty.. dammit).

Owh.. Malaysian Nite is drawing near.. rehearsals have been marvellous so far! DO come for Malaysian nite.. it's on the 28th of April. Expect to be mesmerized by the talents of actors and dancers! :).

Ok.. Back to workkk... arrrghghh!..(slaps face to gain conciousness)
